Howie Cohen Collection
Howie’s career was truly his passion. At the age of 23, Howie became president of West Coast Cycle Supply Company, at which time he searched the world for a factory that would produce high-quality bicycles. He located that factory in Kobe, Japan, and the result were the Nishiki and Azuki bicycle lines. Already an avid collector, by the mid 1970’s Howie had an impressive collection of antique boneshakers, penny-farthings, tricycles and safety bicycles. The complete bicycle collection stayed with WCCSC with the sale of that company. Howie started his new company, Everything Bicycles, and was asked by the Kuwahara Company of Osaka, Japan to design a new bicycle for them. The result was the popular and successful Kuwahara BMX Bicycle Line. All this time and into retirement, Howie’s personal collection continued to grow as he acquired bicycles and bicycle memorabilia from the 19th and 20th centuries. Howie’s life-long dream opening a bicycle museum didn’t come to fruition before his death in 2013, but he did begin cataloging his vast collection with his own notes and historical citations on his website, www.howiebikeman.com Howie Cohen, Sr. 1939-2013
