Copake Auction will hold its 29th Annual Bicycle auction on Saturday June 26th at 9AM. This year’s sale will be online only. According to Seth Fallon the gallery was supposed to hold the sale as tradition last April but cancelled because of the pandemic. While unique to this specific auction the gallery is confident with their online sales results. Previews will be by appointment.
This year’s sale features consignments from all over the country and. A highlight will be a collection from actor Anthony LaPaglia. Anthony is an award winning actor who starred in the long running CBS series “Without a Trace”. He is a best Broadway actor Tony award winner for his portrayal in Arthur Miller’s “View From the Bridge”. He is the last actor who had the benefit of notes on this play directly from Arthur Miller.Anthony has played in over seventy movies and television series. He is currently on Netflix in “Bad Blood” a series depicting organized crime in Canada. His distinguished career has allowed him the flexibility to dabble in various collections including collectible watches (previously auctioned by Christie’s) and now steel modern and vintage road racing bicycles.
The auction will feature 850 lots including antique and collectible bicycles, posters, memorabilia, bicycle accessories and collectibles.
Rare bicycles will include a Rare 1889 Psycho Safety Tandem. Starley Brothers, St. John’s Works, Coventry, England. Serial #14 of possibly 100 units manufactured. Believed to be one of maybe a dozen examples left in the world. Other antique bicycles include high wheels, hard tire safeties, Pneumatic safeties, boneshakers, tricycles and more.
Balloon tire era bicycles include a 1939 Westfield Columbia, 1948 Monark Silver King Hextube, C. 1937 Dayton Huffman “Super Streamliner”, C. 1937 Excelsior Schwinn Balloon Tire Bicycle and more.
Road racing bicycles, light weights and modern bicycles will include a George Longstaff racing trike, a vintage Original Once Team Look bicycle. Alex Zulle KG196TT prototype. Designed exclusively for Alex Zulle, former Swiss Professional racer. During the 1990’s he was among the best cyclist’s in the world, taking 2nd in the 1995 and 1999 Tour de France. Other brand names include Giovanni Gerbi, Schwinn Paramounts, Cinelli, Massi, BSA, Greg Lemond, Bianchi, Hetchin’s, Freejus and more.
The auction will also feature rare bicycles posters, pinbacks, ribbons, trophy’s, cyclometers, artwork, ephemera, lamps, bicycle parts and accessories and more. This will be a highly diverse sale featuring rare seldom seen bicycle related material. The gallery will also be holding another bicycle and transportation auction Saturday September 25th featuring Tour de France items, racing bicycles, early bicycles, balloon tire and more!
