On Saturday July 28th Michael and Seth Fallon of Copake Auction held an unreserved catalogued estate sale. The sale featured the unreserved contents of a Tarrytown NY estate as well as several local estates. “This is a very interesting sale covering all sorts of collecting fields, the gentleman we got the items from had a good eclectic eye!” said Seth Fallon Manager. The sale included a collection of country, Modern, Victorian and custom furniture and accessories, folk art, artwork, textiles, war posters, weathervanes, toys and more.

“We weren’t sure how the modern items would do in this sale, the results were marvelous. Everything exceeded our expectations” Mike Fallon commented.


Highlights include: walnut slab coffee table $3740; c.1970 Eero Saarinen designed table by Knoll $1000; set of (4) labeled "Plycraft" chairs (two arms) $2310. Other furniture highlights from the sale included a set of (6) Danish walnut side chairs, stamped "Made In Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son Designer Hans J. Wegner" selling for $1925 and a 19th c. carved and gilt marble top console ($2970) and 19thc. carved and gilt Rococo style mirror ($4510) both selling to a phone bidder from Beverly Hills. A few real “steals” of the night included an 18th c. Chippendale bracket base five drawer blanket chest with snipe hinges $440, a circa 1825 Sheraton two over four drawer chest with mahogany veneer  $275, and a set of (8) 19th c. paint decorated rush seat Sheraton chairs $330.

 

Copake Auction is known for their annual textile auction and this sale boasted a few “gems” of it’s own. Highlights include: c.1900 Quilt, Mennonite with unusual Honeycomb and 4 Patch with multiple borders $660; Quilt, red and green feathered stars with flying geese gating and borders $1595; 19th c. quilt, Pineapple appliqué, dated "1848" on back $1980; 19th c. quilt, "North Carolina Lily" variation. Circa 1860 $950; Mounted hook rug, "Fish scale" geometric $330.

 

Lots of wonderful old toys sold with prices ranging from $25-$770. Some highlights include: Cast iron mechanical bank "Owl Turns Head", J & E Stevens Co., Pat'd Sept 21 & 28th 1880 $400; Cast iron mechanical bank "Cabin", J & E Stevens Co. $385; Cast iron mechanical bank, "Uncle Remus Bank", Kyser & Rex Co. $770; Toonerville Trolley tin litho clockwork toy, copyright 1922 by Fontaine Fox. $550; Little Abner Band toy, lithographed tin windup by Unique Art $170; Marx Co. tin litho motorcycle cop with sidecar $154; Lot of (2) tin litho "Streamline Railway" cars with wooden wheels, Wolverine Supply & Mfg. Co., Pittsburgh $275.

 

Other miscellaneous highlights include several landscape paintings by Louise M. Kamp (Woodstock NY artist) brought $522 and $577, a Cod weathervane brought $4250 and a cast metal Uncle Sam whirligig sold for a reasonable $220. “With over 400 left bids and a capacity crowd we feel like this quirky sale was a real success” Seth commented.
