Copake Auction held an Americana sale on Saturday March 27th at 5PM. The sale featured 509 lots which Michael sold at a brisk pace of 100 lots per hour. The sale featured 18th, 19th, and 20th c. furniture as well as folk art, weathervanes, artwork, quilts, china, glass, stoneware and period accessories.
Copake Auction always has a selection of country and formal furniture in their catalogued auctions. Included in this sale was a 19th c. open top pewter cupboard in original red paint which sold to a CT. collector bidding on the floor for $3575.00. A set of Hitchcock type 19th c. chairs sold to a collector on the floor against a persistent phone bidder for $2310.00 and a 18th c. tea table sold for a reasonable $1650.00. The same collector purchased an 18th c. walnut table for $2530.00. A phone bidder purchased a 19th c. grain painted cupboard for $2090.00. A dealer from VT. Bought an 18th c. Phil. Highboy for a reasonable $4180.00.
This sale had a good selection of weathervanes including a small size leaping stag which sold to a phone bidder against the floor for $13,200.00 (much to the surprise of Michael and Seth Fallon). The same dealer also purchased a cod fish weathervane for $5060.00. A quill weathervane sold to a bidder on the floor for $4070.00 and a rooster weathervane sold to a dealer for $2970.00. A NYC dealer purchased a solid head running horse weathervane for a reasonable $2640.00.
Other interesting items included a 19th c. sampler made by “Mandilla Hoover” which sold to a phone bidder for $1210.00. An original Evelyn Dubiel watercolor sold to a collector for $1100.00. A little wall box in good mustard paint sold to the floor for $660.00 and a Chipp. Wall mirror brought $770.00. Overall the Fallon’s considered this a strong sale with lots of absentee and phone bids as well as a strong attendance.
