February 28, 2004 Americana Auction

Copake Auction held a one owner Americana sale on February 28th at 5PM. The sale featured the contents of a Mid-West estate. Mike Fallon sold the 377 lot sale in approximately 3 hrs. which is a near record for the gallery. This sale featured period and country furniture, period accessories, a large collection of artwork and frames as well as advertising ,china, glass, pottery and more. “This sale was a small sale for us as far as the amount of lots were concerned, but the crowd was very receptive and we were extremely happy with the results” said Mike Fallon Owner.

Click For Larger Pic The top lot in the furniture category was a 19th c. cherry Chipp. Chest in original condition that sold to a dealer/collector for $2970. An Irish tea table sold to an Irish dealer on an absentee bid against a dealer bidding on the floor. A phone bidder purchased a 19th c. Phila. Classical card table for a reasonable $1430. Another item of interest was a pair of 19th c. windsor arm chairs in old black paint that went to a Ct. dealer for $2200. From the Penna. area was a 19th c. Sheraton blanket box that sold for 1017.50 to a Hudson N.Y. dealer bidding on the floor. One of the bargains of the night was a massive 19th c. mahog. and walnut breakfront which sold to a Millerton N.Y. dealer for $2200. An English oak court cupboard in barn fresh condition sold for $1760.

Click For Larger Pic There was a large collection of frames and artwork including an early Flemish or Dutch still life painting which sold for $1100 to a dealer on the floor. A large collection of Federal mirrors was also offered many bringing between $150-$250. A nice pair of gilt frames sold for $495 while a single gilt ripple molded frame sold for $412.50.

A small collection of advertising tins sold from $50-$125 and a tin “Schepps” cake box went to the floor for $302.50. China and glass was sold in many bulk lots with many bargains to be had including a Villeroy and Boch dining set which sold for $302.50.
